چکیده

Recent experimental and theoretical studies shed new light on the ultrafast photochemical decomposition of organic peroxides, R1C(O)O–OR2. This reaction both is of fundamental interest, directed toward a detailed understanding of unimolecular processes, and of practical relevance because of the widespread use of peroxides as initiators in free-radical polymerization. An overview is given on picoand femtosecond UV pump-VIS/near IR/IR probe experiments on the decomposition of diaroyl peroxides (R1 1⁄4 aryl, R2 1⁄4 C(O)–R1), of tert-butyl peroxyesters (R1 1⁄4 aryl or benzyl, R2 1⁄4 tert-butyl), and of tert-butyl peroxycarbonates (R1 1⁄4 aryloxy, R2 1⁄4 tert-butyl). Analysis of the time-resolved concentration profiles is carried out in conjunction with quantumchemical calculations, in particular on the structure and reactivity of the intermediate carbonyloxy radicals, R1–CO2. A semi-quantitative model is presented which allows for an adequate understanding of the ultrafast processes subsequent to instantaneous peroxide photodissociation.

Oxidation of TNT by photo-Fenton process.

A series of photo-Fenton reactions have been performed for the degradation of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in a 4.2-l reactor. The degradation reaction rate of TNT followed a pseudo-first-order behavior; and the rate constants for 2.4mW cm(-2)UV only, 2.4mW cm(-2)UV/H(2)O(2), Fenton, photo-Fenton (2.4mW cm(-2)) and photo-Fenton (4.7mW cm(-2)) were 0.002min(-1), 0.007min(-1), 0.014min(-1), 0.025m...

Amelioration of the acid blue oxidation process by as-synthesized ZnO nanoparticles: Optimization of the dye and photocatalyst concentration together with the pH of the solution

In this research, ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using a binary Zn(II) Schiff-base complex. The complex heat-treated to prepare ZnO nanoparticles via thermal decomposition route at a temperature of 500 °C. The formation of single-phase ZnO nanoparticles and their microstructures were studied by XRD pattern, SEM and TEM observation. The photo-degradation characteristic of the as-prepar...

Synthesis of Different Copper Oxide Nano-Structures From Direct Thermal Decomposition of Porous Copper(ΙΙ) Metal-Organic Framework Precursors

Copper oxide nanostructures have been successfully synthesized via one-step solid-state thermolysis of two metal-organic frameworks, [Cu3(btc)2] (1) and [Cu(tpa).(dmf)] (2), (btc = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate, tpa = therephtalic acid = 1,4-benzendicarboxylic acid and dmf = dimethyl formamide) under air atmosphere at 400,  500, and 600°C. It has also been found that the reaction temperature pla...

Synthesis and reactivity of aliphatic sulfur pentafluorides from substituted (pentafluorosulfanyl)benzenes

Oxidation of 3- and 4-pentafluorosulfanyl-substituted anisoles and phenols with hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid provided a mixture of SF5-substituted muconolactone, maleic, and succinic acids. A plausible mechanism for the formation of the aliphatic SF5 compounds was presented and their chemical reactivity was investigated. SF5-substituted para-benzoquinone was synthesized; its oxidation le...

Light-induced byproducts of vitamin C in multivitamin solutions.

BACKGROUND When solutions of multivitamin preparations (MVPs) are exposed to light, H(2)O(2) as well as organic peroxides are generated and the concentration of vitamin C decreases. The aim of this study was to determine, using mass spectrometry, whether the generation of oxidative byproducts of vitamin C, such as dehydroascorbate (DHA) and 2,3-diketogulonic acid (DKG), accounted for the report...
